Oban Elliott looks to put the UFC Welterweight division on notice as he continues his meteoric rise in 2024. Here’s the story so far.

Oban Elliott, a Welsh mixed martial artist, has been steadily making his mark in the UFC. His journey to the top is one of resilience and determination. Representing Merthyr Tydfil Elliott has been recognised for his aggressive fighting style, mixing sharp striking with solid grappling. Known as “The Welsh Gangster,” his rise to prominence has been fuelled by not just his skills, but also key relationships that have influenced his career. Most notably Chael Sonnen and CM Punk.
Oban Elliott The Story So Far
Before his UFC debut, Elliott earned his spot by climbing the ranks in Cage Warriors, Europe’s premier MMA organization. His performances were marked by explosive finishes and technical prowess, earning him the attention of UFC scouts. His success in Cage Warriors, combined with his natural charisma, made him a fan favourite even before stepping foot in the UFC Octagon. Oban Elliot has always carried the mentality that he is a fighting attraction, and is made for the big stage. This has perfectly translated to his current position under the TKO banner, making it known that once his UFC run is complete, he is keen to one day crossover to the WWE.

Elliott trains at Shore MMA, home to a vast amount of past and present high level MMA fighters. Immersed in a culture of excellence, Elliott is able to level up as the years go on by training with the likes of Jack Shore and Brett Johns on a regular basis. Surrounded by experienced fighters and coaches, he is constantly pushed to elevate his performance. This environment encourages continuous growth, helping Elliott refine his skills while instilling a strong sense of discipline and motivation.
UFC 2024
In the UFC, Elliott has displayed grit and determination, showing that he belongs among the elite. His early UFC fights have been a mix of striking exchanges and strategic grappling, showcasing his adaptability in the cage. Elliott’s persistence and willingness to learn has kept him on an upward trajectory and subsequently sent him on a meteoric rise in 2024. With the UFC expanding its global reach, Elliott’s rise is symbolic of the ever expanding talent pool from the UK. Elliott will close out the year fighting at UFC 309, against Bassil Hafez at Madison Square Garden. A win here would mean the world to Elliot, as he often references wanting to make his late father proud of him. Fighting in the most famous arena in the world, on a Jon Jones undercard certainly ticks those boxes. As we edge closer to UFC 309, fans will be eager to see how Elliott deals with a tough test in Bassil Hafez.
