Aaron Aby gets his wish of fighting for the OKTAGON title for the second time, however, it won’t be against the same man he fought for the belt late last year. This time, he faces Sam Creasey in a rematch of their 2021 fight for the vacant flyweight championship.

Aaron Aby’s Hunt for Gold
On the hunt for the first title of his professional career, Aaron Aby gets another shot on April 20th. Aby first fought for a title at FCC 16 back in 2016, coming up short against Andy Young. It would take Aby 7 years to get another championship opportunity, this time coming in OKTAGON against Elias Garcia in a vacant title fight. That November fight would be stopped early due to a massive gash on Aby’s left eyebrow, leaving many fans displeased. Aby has since petitioned for a rematch, feeling that he was on his way to winning the fight.
Instead of waiting for a rematch, Aby decided to stay active and fought once again in January at OKTAGON 52. Beating Christopher Daniel by Unanimous Decision, the win strengthened the Welshman’s case for a title shot even further. While it was thought that he would face Elias Garcia once again, Garcia has been stripped of the flyweight title. This leaves Aby with a chance at defeating a different old foe, with Sam Creasey stepping in. Creasey and Aby fought in Cage Warriors in 2021, with Creasey coming out victorious in a Unanimous Decision win. This time there will be higher stakes on the line, with the vacant flyweight championship hanging in the balance.
Aaron Aby Gives Thoughts On Fighting for the Vacant Title
While Aby would’ve liked to avenge his loss to Elias Garcia, his focus is on the belt more than vengeance.
“For me, that belt is my priority and my number one target. It was never about me versus Garcia, it was a dream you have when you start to become a world champion on the biggest show in Europe. That belt is always what I wanted. I want the fight with Garcia back, but the belt is more important. I could have sat on the sideline and waited for whenever he feels he is ready, but that is not in my control so I wanted to just get straight back out there and go again.”
Despite not getting the rematch he would’ve liked, with many wondering if he would, Aby relishes the opportunity of fighting for the belt once again.
“It is a shame and I don’t want to focus on him too much when I have another tough opponent in front of me. I’ve had some of the biggest names in the sport coming up to me and asking if I am getting the rematch. Dan Hardy, Brendan Loughnane, people in the UFC, they have all come up to me and asked when I’m going to fight for the belt again. Part of me thought then it wouldn’t happen, but I was just praying and hoping to get that opportunity to fight for the belt again. Fighting for the world title is more important than waiting for my chance at getting revenge.”
More Than a Fight
Aaron Aby has overcome massive hurdles to get where he is today, both inside and outside of the cage. Born with cystic fibrosis and a survivior of cancer, the odds have been stacked against Aby since birth. His battles inside the cage couldn’t compare to the battles he’s won outside of it, making him a true inspriation. With all of Wales behind him, Aby looks to take down another challenge on April 20th.
