Interview With Aaron Donnelly
Aaron, it is several days now until you make the walk for the second time. This time in Wales, and in front of a new audience. What can those attending expect to see from you when you face Mbaye Gaye this Saturday?
You can expect to see a good display of fast explosive striking from me on Saturday.
You are fighting away from home, and more than likely don’t have the same crowd as you’d usually have. What are your thoughts on fighting home or away, or are you just bothered about getting activity and cage time?
The crowd doesn’t bother me I was booed by the crowd in the Gerard McConville fight. It didn’t phase me I know when the door closes no one can help my opponent.
I mention cage time. You didn’t waste much time on your debut getting Gerrard McConville out of there. Having had a few months to digest that performance, give us your assessment. Totally satisfied?
I was satisfied with the result against Gerard but I also felt there were a few things I did wrong and caused me to end up in bad positions. I feel that comes with experience and ill know with each fight to be more patient and select my shots better.
Donnelly on Showcasing New Parts of His Game
Despite a quick round finish, was there anything in that fight you didn’t get to show that you’re hopeful of showcasing on Saturday night?
There was a lot I didn’t get to show in the fight I have very dynamic striking but I have good power in my hands and if a shot presents itself in the fight I will take it and end the fight.
Your opponent Mbaye Gaye, stands at (3-0), with plenty of cage time early on in his amateur career. With that said, how do you view him and his skill-set as a fellow competitor?
He looks physically strong and athletic but skill wise I feel he’s quite wild and doesn’t set anything up ..guys standing in the pocket with someone who swings like that make him look good.
Three people have tried, three people have failed. What makes you the man to take his 0?
I wont stand in the pocket covering up and trying to trade ill keep the distance and fight intelligently, something those three fighters did not do.
Finally, fans love an official fight prediction. Leave us with your prediction?
My prediction is a 1st round knockout.
