Aaron Towns is seeking champ-champ status ahead of his Goliath Fight Series 4 bantamweight title fight this Saturday.
Towns is the current holder of the promotion’s flyweight title, and he’s confident in adding the bantamweight strap to his growing collection. The Scot will face Denmark’s William Bodhi Moerck in a fight that promises to deliver.
Ahead of his title fight, we had the chance of catching up with Aaron Towns. Hear what he had to say.
Interview With Aaron Towns
In Goliath’s last show, you jumped back into the win column with a first-round finish over a game Reggie Higgiston. Talk us through that fight, and did you anticipate getting him out there as early as you did?
Going into the last fight with Reggie, I saw it as a must-win fight. I was determined to right my wrongs from the previous fight, and although the fight was over pretty quickly, I believe I did make certain adjustments that led to the finish.
You remain one of the most experienced amateurs in the country. What one piece of advice would you have for the younger generation just making their debuts this Saturday on Goliath?
My advice to them would be to go out there and enjoy it. Not many people get to experience the thrill of the fight game.
With that in mind, you’ve had some great wins and put yourself in bad positions to ensure you gain that essential experience before the pro-ranks. Is the pro-ranks in your mind at all, and if so, when can we expect you to make that leap?
Yeh, I do have ambitions to go as far as I can in this sport. I still have loads left to give, and I believe turning professional is in the near future.
Saturday night, you face William Bodhi Moerck. What do you know about him, and how do you feel about the fight when you see it on paper?
I’ve watched a few of his fights, and without giving anything away, I know what his game plan will be.
Aaron Towns Talks Opposition
William started his amateur career with three solid wins and recently faced his first career loss. If you can reflect back to when you were handed your first loss and how you felt ahead of your next bout, with that in mind, what type of William are you anticipating showing up?
You’re always a bit more determined after a loss, so I expect my opponent’s best version to show up on the night.
Are you someone who likes to watch tape on your opponents if available, and is that an important part of your preparation?
Yes, I always watch my opponent’s fights; I’m at a level now where all my opponents have footage available online, so I’d be foolish not to take advantage of that. I’d imagine they’re doing the same and analysing my fights.
You gave the Goliath show a fantastic finish last time out. Tell them what they can expect from you this time round.
You can expect more of the same. Another dominant performance with me looking to get the finish the whole fight.
Finally, leave us with your official prediction ahead of Saturday night.
I’ve never been a fan of predicting fights, but I’m extremely confident I’ll do everything I can to get my hand raised and become the double champ!!
