Aaron Wilmot has one thing on his mind ahead of his Badmofo 5 clash with Jacob Halota this Saturday in Barnsley, and that’s war!
Wilmot comes into the bout the more experienced amateur after a busy 2022, which saw him compete five times, going (2-3). His opponent, Halota, is seeking the first victory of his amateur career, but Wilmot assures us, Saturday night in the Barnsley Metrodome, that won’t happen.
Ahead of fight night, we had the pleasure of catching up with Aaron Wilmot, who expressed his desire to stay away from a “boring fight”. Read the full exclusive interview below.
Interview With Aaron Wilmot
Several days out from fight day in Barnsley. How are you feeling ahead of your first outing of the year?
Feeling good and in shape fights at 60kg, and I normally fight at 57kg, so I’m not weight cutting at all this time, which is a first for me, so feeling good. The nerves do come and go, but that happens with every fight.
Last year you were extremely active and gained a heap of handful experience in the cage. How would you sum up your 2022, and what are the major takeaways?
I would sum up 2022 as a very good year for me. Even though I didn’t get the results I wanted, I got loads of experience in the cage and got humbled in truth, and I feel like it’s what I needed to sort myself out and get my head down and graft.
You’ve had some time to work on some new things since your last outing. Where do you feel you’ve made the biggest improvements this year?
I can hopefully show that in the cage. I don’t want to give that away.
Aaron Wilmot Talks Fight With Jacob Halota
The man you meet on Saturday night is Jacob Halota, who’s currently 0-2 in his career. How do you feel about the matchup, and are you looking at this as a great opportunity to find yourself back in the win column?
I feel sound about the matchup. His 0-2 record doesn’t mean much could have had two close fights and still put on good performances, I haven’t seen his fights yet, but I know he’s young, and he’s got to have something about him to still want to fight at 0-2 so I respect it to be honest.
In your amateur career, you’ve failed to pick up any real momentum and get a winning streak under your belt. What do you think’s preventing you from doing so?
Myself. There are loads of factors that I could say like, but it’s mainly just me getting in my own head, I think. I’ve also only been training just over a year and a half, so most of these guys have much more experience, but no excuse, every fight I lost, they beat me fair and square. Hopefully, Saturday can be the start of one.
Badmofo 5, tell us, how does Aaron Wilmot vs. Jacob Halota unfold at the Barnsley Metrodome?
Well, I’m hoping for it to be exciting like. I think all my fights so far have been boring, so I want a war. I want to rock him and get rocked and keep coming forward, win or lose, as long as it’s a good fight, so I’ll be happy.
