Adam Azim has expressed interest in a fight with former undisputed champion Josh Taylor. Azim is fresh on becoming the IBO World Super-Lightweight champion on Saturday after stopping former IBF World champion Sergey Lipinets.
Azim Becomes the World Champion
Adam Azim is fresh off becoming the IBO World Super-Lightweight champion on Saturday. Azim beat Sergey Lipinets via round 9 stoppage with a dominant display, despite being deducted 2 points due to low blows. Adam Azim got into the fight from the second round onwards with sickening uppercuts being thrown. Lipinets was game and did land many left hooks, however none seemed to set Azim back.
Adam Azim Calls Out Josh Taylor
After the win, Azim did call out Dalton Smith. Azim told Smith ‘You’re not that good mate’. However, since that fight, Azim has had other ideas.
Yesterday on Sky Sports, Adam Azim said: ‘Getting to the top you have to be patient. I don’t know if Taylor would take it. It would be a massive fight. Honestly let’s see what he wants. I’m a threat to all of the division. If Josh wants it let’s have it.’
Josh Taylor is currently a free agent, however many rumours a few months ago were that he was going to sign with Matchroom & Eddie Hearn. There were many dates being spurred around however we still have no official news.
Josh Taylor’s last fight was his long-awaited rematch with Jack Catterall after his controversial win over Catterall in their first fight. In the rematch Taylor was very game and competitive, however, fell short of a unanimous decision defeat to Jack in a sold-out event in Leeds, showing that he’s still a huge attraction in boxing. Taylor, former undisputed world champion, has expressed interest in a trilogy with Jack Catterall, it is 1-1, but many see it 2-0 and aren’t interested in the third fight.
It’s unclear whether this fight is a realistic ambition for Azim, as there’s not much to gain for Taylor in this fight. Azim however did express he’s happy to go to Scotland to fight Taylor, but it’s unclear whether Ben Shalom CEO of Boxxer would allow this fight. Ben Shalom rejected multiple fights for Azim to feature on the Eubank-Benn undercard.
