After an incredibly impressive amateur resume, Adam Butterworth is ready to take on the pro-circuit.
Butterworth will take on Dave Jones this Saturday, July 1, at Almighty Fighting Championship 31 in Wales.
Ahead of the fight card headlined by Jamie MacDonald and Mateusz Duczmal, we had the chance to talk with a confident Adam Butterworth. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Adam Butterworth
Adam, you’ll make your professional debut on Almighty FC this Saturday. Given the stakes, is there a different feel about your preparations this time, or has it felt the same as your time as an amateur?
“I feel I treated my last few amateur fights as professionally as I could, so preparing for my pro debut has been the same, really.“
It’s a big decision to go professional, but you’ve banked a lot of hard rounds, hard fights, and valuable experience. How did you know the time was right and as well as your coaches?
“Yeah, I feel like I never took easy fights in my amateur career and fought anyone that was put in Infront of me. I feel that has helped me prepare for the pro ranks. My whole amateur career has spanned over eight years almost, and I just feel like the time is right now for me. “
Now, being a professional now means the addition of utilising your elbows. How excited are you to add a new tool to your arsenal, and can we expect to see some elbows on Saturday night?
“Yes, I’m very excited about being able to throw elbows now. I feel my game, especially on the ground, will allow me to get into position to throw some good elbows. “
Butterworth Talks Amateur Resume
You had a credentialed and impressive amateur career. That said, how would you sum up your time as an ammy? Are you satisfied with what you achieved?
“The latter part of my Amateur career I was very satisfied with I feel the first part of it prepared me for it, and it allowed me to get some losses out of the way, which I learnt a lot from that I can take into my future professional career.“
Your opponent Dave Jones hasn’t had the best of starts to his pro-career. Looking at this fight, what are your honest thoughts?
“I feel I am better in all areas of MMA than him, but it is still a fight, and anything can happen, so I will not be underestimated him.”
On paper, you’d be expected to run through Dave. However, in MMA, we know to never underestimate any man. But do you see him causing you any issues at all in there, given his track record?
“Yeah, I learnt the hard way in my early amateur career not to underestimate anyone. I feel I learnt from that, and I am excited to see how my skillset fares up to him.“
Finally, you kickstart your professional career with a stoppage win. What’s next? Do you have anything planned for the remainder of the year?
“My plan for the remainder of the year is to get at least one more fight in and then get myself ready for a bigger test next year. “
