Alex Pereira and Dricus Du Plessis traded words after UFC Noche.
It all stemmed as light heavyweight champion Pereira dubbed Du Plessis ‘a clown’.
In return, the middleweight champion responded to Alex Pereira.
Alex Pereira and Dricus Du Plessis Continue to Clash
After Alex Pereira teased a potential return back to the middleweight division earlier this month, the pair have clashed several times on social media. This time around whilst at UFC Noche speaking to Full Send MMA Pereira continued to call out Du Plessis.
Alex Pereira said; “Dricus is an easier fight than fighting Jon Jones. I think making weight would be harder than that fight.”
“I did stop making that weight class because my body needed a break for two, or three fights without having to do that cut. Now I think I have rested long enough – I think I can do that cut and make the fight happen.
“But it depends on him, I showed interest many times, but he never replied. The way that he presents himself, he always jokes when he responds. Like he said that stuff about Strickland for example, he’s never serious.”
“He never takes it seriously, so it shows that he’s scared, clown.”
This is the latest attempt by Alex Pereira to materialize a fight between the pair. Whilst Dricus’s coaches have stated for the UFC to start negotiations between the pair nothing has come of it so far.
Du Plessis Fires Back at Pereira
After these comments, it didn’t take long for Dricus Du Plessis to respond as he voiced his opinion on X (formerly Twitter). Dricus Du Plessis said; “A scared clown – how dare you! Now that’s taking it too far. I’ve already said I’m in to fight either you or Sean Strickland. What more do you want or should I tag your translator?”
Following on from these exchanges, it remains to be seen as to whether the UFC does make the bout happen. Alex Pereira has meanwhile emphasised that he isn’t overlooking Khalil Rountree who has faced at UFC 307.
Dricus Du Plessis on the other hand is fresh over a victory against Israel Adesanya with the South African winning by submission. If Pereira overcomes Rountree it could fast-track a potential fight between the pair with Alex Pereira emphasising his desire to return to the middleweight division.
