Light-heavyweight champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira has hinted at a return to fighting as soon as August
The Brazilian two-weight champ has shown an interest in fighting at UFC 305 in Perth. A fairly quick turn around considering his last fight was at UFC 300 in April. Fans will be happy to hear the news that Alex Pereira will be back so soon as “Poatan” has left-hooked his way to stardom.
Last time out we saw Alex face off against former Light-Heavyweight champion Jamahall “Sweet Dreams” Hill at UFC 300. In this fight, Pereira did not wait around finishing Hill inside the first round.
Pereira has shown his excitement at his possible return at UFC 305.
Alex Pereira Hints at Return Fight in August, Poatan in Perth
In an interview with Herald Sun Alex Pereira seemed overjoyed at the prospect of returning to Perth. He said:
“That would be fantastic [fighting at UFC 305 in Australia], even more so now feeling the warmth from all the fans, the crowd and the good people. Imagine me doing a fight here [in Australia], it makes me very happy.”
Not only is Alex loving the idea of fighting in Perth but has been enjoying his time training in Australia over the past couple of weeks. He was spotted sparring with fellow fan-favourite-fighter Tai Tuivasa.
“It’s my third time in Australia. I was here when Anderson Silva fought (against Israel Adesanya), but I wasn’t the man I am now.” He added, “I wasn’t known. Now, I can come back and train and work and I like it here. I’m making new friends and contacts.”
Though the opponent is yet to be confirmed speculation seems to be that it will be a rematch between Jiri Prochazka. The equally beloved Czech fighter Prochazka confirmed that he has signed a contract to return to competition.
Coupling this with Alex Pereira’s interest in fighting at UFC 305 it would seem the two are due to show down again. Prochazka will be keen to get even having been on the receiving end of the misfortune last time out.
The two fought back at UFC 295 in Madison Square Garden in November. Prochazka made a good showing for himself with an impressive first round.
Ultimately Pereira would finish the fight in the second round by knockout. Since then Jiri has fought and won finishing Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 300.
With the two seemingly good to go as soon as August it’s over to the UFC for the confirmation.
