Alex Pereira Overtaken by Jon Jones in the Pound-For-Pound Rankings
The UFC pound-for-pound rankings received their latest update after UFC 309 last weekend. Jon Jones’ stoppage victory over Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden, bumped him to the no.2 spot in the rankings, surpassing Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira.
Alex Pereira Reacts to Ranking Revamp
Before UFC 309, the only man ahead of ‘Poatan’ in the pound-for-pound rankings was lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.
Alex Pereira has been fought a staggering 3 times this year – making him the most active champion in the organisation. During these 3 bouts, he scored three impressive KOs against light-heavyweight’s finest that helped him achieve his spot in the rankings.
The Brazilian was remarkably unbothered by being relegated to the no.3 spot, even giving his own opinion on what the rankings should really look like.
He wrote: “With this change only I would already happy.”
‘Poatan’s change to the rankings consisted of Jones being no.1, Makhachev being no.2 and he remaining at no.3. This ranking order is also supported by UFC CEO Dana White, who made his grievances about the rankings vocal.
Dana White Speaks Out on Pound-For-Pound Update
In the latest of his verbal tirades, Dana White once spoke out against the pound-for-pound rankings – or specifically the people who make them.
White has insisted for the last year that Jon Jones should be the inarguable no.1 in the rankings. Unsurprisingly, he was dismayed when he saw the recent update.
Posting to his Instagram, he directly addressed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, hinting at a collaboration between the pair to fix the rankings.
He wrote: “I have to get rid of these CLOWNS!! Mark Zuckerberg let’s get this AI deal done ASAP!!!”
Zuckerberg is a self-proclaimed MMA fan and in addition to training, is often seen in attendance at UFC events. If someone were to help White fix his ranking problem – he would be a prime candidate.
