Alex Pereira is looking to sharpen his tools after his win at UFC 291 by training with the heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Since joining the UFC and teaming up with close friend and mentor Glover Teixeira, the improvements in Alex Pereira’s overall skillset have been there for all to see. ‘Poatan’s’ offensive work on the feet has been an absolute pleasure to watch. With 6 finishes coming in his last 9 MMA bouts, it appears that Pereira has plans to improve his game even further by teaming up with UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Alex Pereira Speaks on Jon Jones
In a recent interview with Block Asset, Alex Pereira was asked to give his opinion on what many consider to be the MMA GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) in Jon Jones. Pereira had nothing but positive things to say about Jones and insisted that he hopes to one day train with Jones.
“An amazing fighter, one of the best of all times for me. I never had contact with him either, but he looks like a very humble guy. A really nice guy. I would also like to train with him one day and meet him.”

‘Poatan’ to Train with ‘Bones’?
It is of course no secret that Alex Pereira is what is referred to as a ‘striker’. With a background in kickboxing, Pereira tends to find most of his success in MMA whilst fighting on the feet. Pereira, alongside close friend and former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira have of course been putting in work behind the scenes to improve Pereira’s ground game and the opportunity to train with Jones would be a huge asset to Pereira moving forwards.
Jones, who many consider the GOAT of the sport is currently the UFC heavyweight champion. After a three-year hiatus and relinquishing the light heavyweight championship, Jones finally returned to the UFC octagon in March and claimed the vacant heavyweight crown with a submission victory over Ciryl Gane. This, following the departure of former belt holder Francis Ngannou.
Jones, who is known for his dynamic style and perhaps being one of the most well-rounded fighters we have ever seen, could certainly help Pereira to add to his skillset and become a more well-rounded athlete.
What’s Next for Jon Jones & Alex Pereira?
Jones himself is preparing to take on what many consider the ‘heavyweight GOAT’ in Stipe Miocic. A legacy-defining fight for both men, as the headliner for UFC295 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday 11th November. Whilst Alex Pereira appears to be on course for a crack at the UFC light heavyweight crown in a potential vacant title fight with former champion Jiří Procházka. If the fight would be to come to fruition, it would be an opportunity for Pereira to become a two weight UFC world champion in just his seventh fight. An incredible accomplishment.
With Jon Jones booked to face Stipe Miocic and Alex Pereira potentially set to face Jiří Procházka, it would seem that now would be the perfect opportunity for both men to take stock of each others skillsets. These are two matchups that have MMA fans licking their lips at the prospect of seeing before the close of 2023.
