Sean Strickland shocked the world this weekend, and following his victory at UFC 293 in Sydney, Alex Pereira shared his thoughts on the fight.
Strickland, was a massive underdog going into the fight, pretty much no one saw him winning. How wrong we were. Strickland dominated 4/5 rounds against a shellshocked Adesanya, who had no answer for Strickland’s persistence and power. Pereira, former rival of both fighters, and now current training partner for Strickland gave an honest opinion on the historic moment.
Alex Pereira Mocks Israel Adesanya Over Sean Strickland Victory
Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira are no strangers. Having competed four times against one another, across two different combat sports, it’s safe to say they have a distain for each other. The pair most recently fought back in April, which saw ‘Stylebender’ finish Pereira in the 2nd round. To claim his first win over ‘Poatan’ having gone 0-3 in both Kickboxing and MMA beforehand. The distain they share was made relevant once again, after Pereira tweeted immediately after the culmination of the main event. Saying; ‘Seems like my plans to go down one more time to Middleweight ran out…’

Throughout the fight, Strickland relentlessly unleashed devastating strikes on Izzy, leading to moments where a stoppage felt seconds away. One such moment was right at the end of the very first round. A beautifully timed right-straight sat Izzy down before unleashing a barrage of vicious shots, just as the bell went to spare Adesanya’s blushes. Strickland secured a unanimous decision victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 49-46. The result will undoubtedly go down as one of, if not the, biggest upset in UFC Middleweight history.
Israel Adesanya Talks Alex Pereira
Speaking post fight in Sydney, Izzy showed his typical level of honesty and sportsmanship. The bitter rivalry with Pereira has been evident to see, but Adesanya didn’t shy away from it when the topic was brought up. Izzy acknowledged he wasn’t himself, both last night and in the ‘Poatan’ loss.
Since the fight, back in April, Pereira has moved up to the Light-Heavyweight division. Picking up a unanimous decision victory over former champ, Jan Blachowicz. To put him on the verge of a title shot.
