UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira’s English is improving, but not in the way most might expect.
In just over three years, Alex Pereira went from a relatively unknown UFC debutant to one of the biggest stars in combat sports. His electrifying knockouts, enigmatic persona, and intimidating presence have already cemented his place as a UFC legend.
Amid his rise to fame and fortune, Alex Pereira has been gradually working on his English. This is to be able to better connect with English-speaking fans. While he can manage a few one-word phrases, he is not yet fluent enough to form full sentences, though that could change with time.
In the meantime, Alex Pereira’s progress was on display at a recent Power Slap event. Sitting in the front row alongside UFC CEO Dana White and other attendees, Alex Pereira seemed to enjoy the event, despite his typically stoic expression during one of the highlights.
However, Alex Pereira dropped his usual indifferent demeanour in a moment of collaboration with influencer Nina Frama when one of the Power Slap competitors took a brutal knockout. As the fighter hit the canvas unconscious, Pereira shouted a reaction that has become common in his UFC highlights. To Nina Drama’s surprise, Alex Pereira yelled “Holy S***!” in a hilarious and viral moment.
Alex Pereira also had a chance to catch up with Dana White, showing off a custom-made UFC belt bracelet. As of now, a return date for the light heavyweight champion is uncertain, but he is expected to face Magomed Ankalaev for his title defence.
Alex Pereira made history as the fastest fighter to earn a UFC title, defeating Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. After losing the rematch to Adesanya, Pereira remains unbeaten at light heavyweight, claiming the title at UFC 295 with a knockout.
Alex Pereira Dominates in South Korea and Clashes with Jamahal Hill Ahead of UFC Return
As Pereira waits for his next UFC booking, he is enjoying some time away from the octagon spotlight. During a recent trip to South Korea, Pereira took on a bodybuilder in an arm wrestling contest and sparred with one of the country’s top boxers.
Since moving to the 205-pound division full-time, Pereira has defeated top fighters like Jamahal Hill, Jiří Procházka, and Jan Blachowicz. In his most recent defence of his title, he was able to get a knockout victory over Khalil Rountree at UFC 307.
In a recent training session at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, Pereira had a heated exchange with Hill that nearly escalated into a physical confrontation. The two had been trading online jabs for months before coming face-to-face at the facility. Hill is set to fight Procházka in a potential No. 1 contender bout at UFC 311 next month, with a win possibly setting up a rematch with Pereira.
Outside of the Cage, Pereira remains one of the most in-demand athletes on the UFC roster. As his English improves, his star power will continue to grow, further boosting his already immense popularity.
