Amateur MMA fighter Alex Williams has allowed the Golden Ticket Fight Promotions audience into his mindset ahead of battle.
Williams is set to face Cheikh Mane at GTFP 23 on September 2nd at the K.K Steelmill in Wolverhampton. Despite making the walk three times prior to fight night, Williams has been out of action for over a year, but is confident.
Ahead of the fight, we had the chance to talk with Alex Williams. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Alex Williams
You are a few weeks out from fight night and your fourth walk to the cage as an amateur. How are you feeling within body and mind ahead of your fight with Cheikh Mane?
I’m feeling great going into my next fight, both mentally and physically.
Mane has had an impressive amateur career thus far, stopping his opponents in all four wins. How do you prepare for him, or someone in general who has a knack for finding the finish and capitalising on his opponent’s mistakes?
I’ll be preparing specifically for his “wild style” and have no mistakes which he’ll be able to capitalise on.
Williams Talks Lay Off
It’s been over a year since we last saw you, where you bagged a round one arm-bar finish at Almighty Fighting Championship 26. What’s the reason for the long-lay off? Was it a decision to take time away to keep improving, or has it been frustrating?
I have taken some time away from competition due to sitting my A-level, but now that’s over, and I’m back.
A year’s a long time to be out of competitive competition. Are you a believer in ring rust, and do you expect that to factor into the fight in the early stages of fight night?
Although I haven’t been competing as regularly, I have been training consistently during my time away and have been improving. As someone who has competed for many years, I don’t think ring rust will be a problem.
When you look at Cheikh’s game and study previous tapes of his, how do you break him down, along with his skill set and his overall game?
My main takeaway from his previous fights is that I must remain composed and ensure the fight goes how I want it to.
Mindset
The amateur circuit is all about learning and challenging yourself. Sept 3. Is it win by any means necessary, or given the time away, are you eager to just showcase your improvements and how much you’ve improved without giving much insight into the result?
When I step into the cage, the aim is always to win by any means necessary.
Finally, what can the GTFP audience expect from not only you but the fight itself? Hype them up and tell them why they should stay seated when the cage door closes on you both.
I think this fight will be a great one to watch for the audience, as I’ll be looking to finish this guy quickly.
I’ll leave you with the last word. Is there anybody you’d like to thank or any last words for your opponent?
Finally, I’d just like to thank everyone involved in my training and preparation.
