The No.1 Pound for Pound fighter released his fight breakdowns and picks recently for UFC 282. Alexander Volkanovski posted on youtube his predictions for UFC 282 this weekend. Volkanovski had some things to say about Darren Till and his upcoming fight with Driscus du Plessis. He predicts Till will prove he’s got what it takes to get a win over Driscus. This won’t be an easy fight for Darren considering he’s coming off of a long lay off and multiple injuries. Driscus du Plessis has a style that can cause Darren some serious problems and has a good chance to pick up a win over a big name.
The featherweight champ had this to say about the matchup. “Darren Till’s good. He can be hit or miss. I feel like Darren Till will capitalize on this. I watched a bit of tape on Driscus and he can be a little bit aggressive, he can overcommit. Darren Till, he’s got some good Muay Thai. I do believe sometimes he does keep that chin up there a little bit. Some people can capitalize on it, I don’t think Driscus will.”
The pound for pound great carried on complimenting Darren’s boxing skills and stand up ability and stated that he believes Till is a better striker. “I think Driscus is gonna put himself in more vulnerable positions, and, again, Darren Till’s got some tidy hands and he can capitalize on that. Come in aggressive like that… Darren Till’s high level and definitely a better striker than Driscus, I believe, so I’m gonna lean towards Darren Till.”
Considering Till’s been out of action for over a year he’ll have a lot of pressure on him to return with a win. It will give him confidence to see top fighters like Alex complimenting his skills. Even if Darren has been out for a while and hasn’t been fighting top guys it doesn’t mean he isn’t an elite level fighter.
The Match Up
Darren Till (18-4-1) takes on Driscus du Plessis (17-2-0) at UFC 282 this weekend. This fight is giving both men an oppurtuninity to end 2022 on a high note and go into 2023 with a win. The story of this fight will either be the resurgence of Darren Till or the rise of Driscus du Plessis.
For Till he will want to keep this fight on the feet and try and pick Driscus off with clean shots and avoid the takedowns. He will also have to deal with the pressure of needing to get a win as he hasn’t wone since 2019 agaisnt Gastelum. Darren is currently coming off two losses so a big win here will mean a lot to him.
For Driscus du Plessis this will be the oppurtunity to get a big win over a big name. Although Till may not be top of his division getting a win will boost your namesake a lot. Driscus comes into this fight on a 5 fight win streak and will look to make it 6.
