All set to lock horns with Ilia Topuria at UFC 298, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has grim plans for his rival. According to the long-reigning divisional king, he is going to ‘embarrass’ the undefeated title challenger during their upcoming showdown in February next year, something which, according to the Aussie, would be a lesson for the young Georgian.
Last seen in action in Abu Dhabi in October earlier this year, Volkanovski’s plan for a two-division triumph didn’t go his way. Despite looking good heading into the fight, ‘the greatest’ found himself on the receiving end of a brutal first-round finish against the lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Nonetheless, just weeks after this disappointment, it looks like the City Kickboxing champion is smelling blood once again.
Alexander Volkanovski Has a Lesson for ‘Young’ Ilia Topuria
In his recent appearance on the ‘Who The Fook Are These Guys’ podcast, Alexander Volkanovski expressed his opinion on his upcoming title match with Illia Topuria. According to Volkanovski, he is looking for another successful title defence at UFC 298, humbling Topuria in the process. “I’m gonna embarrass him,” said Volkanovski.
As per the UFC’s 145 lb king, “El Matador” has been handed the opportunities he has got. And according to him, a loss would humble the young and undefeated prospect. In his own words, “I’m hoping to teach him a lesson, humble him a little bit, and still let him wake up to himself and then he can bounce back when my time’s done.”
Further, in the interview, ‘Volk’ claimed that this loss would be an important lesson for the young fighter. And if the Aussies also believed, the young prospect would be able to recover from this setback. “He’s young enough to bounce back in a positive way. I’ll play teacher the next few months,” Volkanovski added.
