Alexander Volkanovski would be willing to headline UFC 300 with the UFC still searching for their spotlight fight. Fighting the weekend at UFC 298. Where the Australian will attempt to defend his featherweight gold against the 14-0 Ilia Topuria. Volkanovski will need to leave Saturday’s bout relatively unscathed with UFC 300 less than three months away.
With the landmark event fast approaching and still no headline fight announced. The UFC appear to be struggling with big names they can use to top the mammoth pay-per-view bill. As Jon Jones, Khamzat Chimaev and Israel Adesanya are all unavailable for the event, Dana White and co are looking for a fight to get fans excited. Alexander Volkanovki headlining UFC 300 could be their answer.
Alexander Volkanovski on Headlining UFC 300
During his press for his upcoming bout, the featherweight king had the following to say. “I’m more than happy to fight in the UFC 300 main event. It wouldn’t be a featherweight fight. It would have to be a lightweight opponent, and I’d be more than happy to take that on.”
Volkanovski’s last fight was at lightweight where he challenged Islam Makhachev for the 155 lb gold in a rematch to their extremely close UFC 284 bout. The second fight wasn’t as close with Makhachev dispatching of Volk with a stunning head kick in the first round.
Speaking on his knockout loss to the Russian phenom at UFC 294 Volkanovski said this. “I’d been undisciplined in the months leading up to that, and you’ll never see that again. I’m fine with it. A lot of people talk the talk, saying they’ll fight anyone, anywhere. I know I’ll do it. That was a terrible circumstance, the worst in my past 13 years. But I backed myself. I knew I wasn’t ready, but I told myself I’d be the most dangerous I’d ever been because I knew I couldn’t win by decision. There was no way I was going five rounds, so I went for it.”
“You need to hit some adversity, and that was the lowest of lows for me. Now everyone gets to see the bounce-back. I’m fighting an undefeated guy that everyone’s hyping up–I can’t wait.”

Potential UFC 300 Opponents for Alexander Volkanovski
If, and it is a big if, Volkanovski can prevail with minimal damage from his title defence this Saturday. Who could be a likely lightweight he could square off against? A third fight with Makhachev is extremely unlikely due to the nature of their last fight.
Other top contenders are booked. With Dustin Poirier set to face Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299, Justin Gaethje, Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira all featuring on UFC 300. With the latter two fighting in a number one contender fight.
That’s the top four unavailable. The rest of the division doesn’t have a name big enough to headline UFC 300, besides Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler who are set to clash later this year. Leaving this scenario a fantasy we can hope for.
If Alexander Volkanovski does headline UFC 300, who would you like to see him face?
