Alistair Overeem is under investigation after his victory against Badr Hari in October.
The 42-year-old kickboxer handed in a urine sample in which a prohibited substance was found. De Telegraaf has reported it.
Alistair Overeem Waiting On Update
Overeem’s management is currently awaiting the results of the b-sample and has not made further comments.
However, according to them, the substance found is not a performance-enhancing substance.
In the main event, Badr Hari and Alistair Overeem completed their trilogy, with Overeem rallying to win via unanimous decision. Down two rounds on the judges’ scorecards entering the third and final round, Overeem knocked Hari down twice, earning a 10-7 score for the round and, ultimately, the victory.
After his victory over Hari, Overeem appeared to be the next in line to challenge heavyweight champion, Rico Verhoeven.
On Saturday, however, it became clear that there was an issue. Verhoeven first responded to a challenge from Antonio Plazibat via social media, which he initially ignored.
The 28-year-old Croatian has been crying out for a fight against the champion for months. He did so again on Saturday after his impressive knockout victory over Raul Catinas.
Verhoeven responded with “I am here. Make sure that party comes Glory.”
Verhoeven has never made a secret of being open to a fight against the internationally renowned Overeem.
However it would appear that they won’t meet until this current situation has been resolved.
