UFC 307 has suffered a blow to the card with Aljamain Sterling pulling out of his bout against Movsar Evloev. Sterling revealed in a video on his Youtube channel that he will be pulling out with an injury. The injury was the result of sparring where he was caught in a submission injuring his arm. Sterling encouraged Evloev to wait for the fight to be rescheduled for December. However, he did not begrudge Evloev if he decided to move on and pursue a different fight.
Aljamain Sterling Out Of Movsar Evloev Fight With Injury
Well for Sterling he needs to recover and get to full health. He said the injury didn’t require surgery so it’s not massively debilitating and he indicated he’d be ready for December. So the fight could be rescheduled or he could potentially wait and fight the winner of Evloev against a different opponent. Or Aljo could try to pursue a fight with Diego Lopes.
For Evloev he has options he can wait or seek a replacement opponent and he seems to be doing the latter. Evloev has taken to Twitter to voice his wants. Here he makes it clear that he wants to stay on UFC 307 but needs a new dance partner.
He then decided to call out rival Diego Lopes. Evloev was Lopes’ first fight in the UFC and was on short notice but regardless gave Evloev his hardest fight. Since then Lopes has made a name for himself in the UFC. Lopes has defeated Sodiq Yussuf, Dan Ige, and Brian Ortega impressively. Although, calling out Lopes to have another short notice fight against himself after all the activity isn’t a good look. Also not a good look as quite a few people think Lopes actually Evloev in their encounter.
He then had a back and forth with Lopes where Lopes essentially called out Evloev for previously avoiding a rematch. He also said that Evloev’s wins have been less impressive which they have been both in level and method of winning. Jean Silva then decided to answer the call on Twitter. Evloev then provided a response saying he’s happy to fight him if the fight’s made and he makes weight.
The Silva fight would be a great. Silva has been extremely impressive in his run in the UFC being undefeated and winning in very impressive fashion. This fight would also be good as Movsar Evloev isn’t particularly entertaining and so Silva could drag an entertaining fight out of him. We shall see if Evloev ends up with a new fight or waits in good time.
