Alonzo Menifield will look to make it four wins out of five when he takes on Misha Cirkonov at UFC Vegas 62.
In his last outing, Menifield gave a one-sided beating to the now disgraced Askar Mozharov. That was extremely satisfying due to all the trash talk and animosity in the build-up, with Menifield describing it as a “street fight”.
Now he looks ahead to his next challenge.
Matching up with Cirkunov
Menifield will welcome Cirkunov back to the light heavyweight division after his 0-2 run at middleweight failed to pan out. He described it as a fun fight and one that he is looking forward to having, especially as he is “getting a big old purse with it”.
Cirkunov has been knocked out in four of his last six losses, but Menifield is not looking past him and is taking the challenge seriously. He knows how tough an opponent he is and believes that the “only way to beat this guy is to finish him”.
In preparation for this fight, Menifield has moved his entire fight camp to Colorado to train with Pat Barry. Another sign of how seriously he is taking this fight after splitting his time between two camps for his last fight. The move clearly paid off. Now Menifield is committed to learning as much as he can from the UFC and kickboxing veteran turned coach.
He believes that training in Colorado is the best place for him to improve his skills on his quest for UFC gold. A win over the formerly ranked Cirkunov will put him on the right path in pursuit of that goal.
Down Time
Whilst fight camp is a grind, Menifield is making sure to take in the beauty that the State of Colorado has to offer. He is spending his down time in the mountains and the rivers, as well as learning how to farm, which brings a welcome change of scenery from the gym. He also plans to buy a property in Colorado to have a place to call home for his future fight camps.
