Following the thrilling action at UFC Edmonton last night (Sat., Nov. 2, 2024) at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Amir Albazi, who lost in the main event, was taken to a nearby hospital. Right after the fight, he was sent for a precautionary CT scan to check his head and face.
It wasn’t surprising that Albazi needed medical attention. Brandon Moreno had him in a tough spot, pushing him through five relentless rounds. By the end, Albazi’s face bore the signs of the fight, with blood streaking down and his eye noticeably swollen.
Amir Albazi Hospitalized After UFC Edmonton Loss to Brandon Moreno
Albazi, nicknamed “The Prince,” has faced serious health issues before. He spent a long 16 months side-lined with multiple injuries, even undergoing heart surgery during that period. Later, he dealt with another significant injury that doctors warned could have been life-threatening if left untreated. Despite these setbacks, Albazi managed to build a strong six-fight win streak in the UFC, making his recent loss even harder for him and his fans. At 31, he’s experienced his first UFC defeat and sees a break in his streak just as he was closing in on a flyweight title shot.
Though this loss is a setback, Albazi remains hopeful. His next steps in the flyweight division might just bring him back into the title conversation. With the UFC planning multiple events in the Middle East next year, the Iraq-born fighter, currently ranked No. 3 in the flyweight division, has a chance to make a strong comeback on familiar ground.
The journey back won’t be easy, but Albazi’s track record shows he’s no stranger to challenges, and set-backs.
