Anas Hamrad hopes to implement his pressure until Damian Gojski folds at Battle Arena 77 this Saturday in Coventry, England.
Hamrad is the current title holder of the promotion’s heavyweight strap and has a killer instinct to find a finish. That said, he has a game competitor in Damian Gojski who promises to bring the fire.
Before the fight, we had the chance to catchup with Anas to get his thoughts on his upcoming title defense.
Interview With Anas Hamrad
Fight week Anas and you will defend your heavyweight title at Battle Arena 77. How are you feeling physically and mentally ahead of fight night?
I am feeling great Alhamdulillah. Better than ever I would say. We are always training with or without a fight planned, so, I would say I feel great mentally and physically.
You have been out for some time, longer than you may have liked I imagine? Your last fight was cancelled, but you’ll get the chance to fight Damian Gojski once again. Firstly, what happened for the fight to get cancelled and secondly, how important was it to run this back?
I believe he had heart issues or something on those lines. He failed the medicals, so the fight could not go ahead. It doesn’t matter really who I am fighting, whether it’s him or someone else. So there was no pressure on my behalf.
You proudly represent Morocco; can you highlight what it means to you to represent your nation as you do in battle?
One of the greatest honors is to be able to represent my beloved country. I am sure I will make them proud and carry on representing my country.
Anas Hamrad Talks Ring Rust
Ring-rust can be a big issue for fighters who take some time off. That said, do you expect your long-lay off to cause you any issue on fight night?
I fought last month for the ISKA British championship ( won by KO), so I wouldn’t say I am too rusty, but yeah like I said, I am always training day in and day out, so it shouldn’t be an issue at all inshallah.
Damian’s been in your mind for more than one camp. During that time, has your assessment on his skillset changed in anyway? What are your thoughts on him as a fellow competitor?
I rarely look at my opponent as the game plan, and the mentality is always the same, pressure, pressure till they fold. I believe he is a good competitor and fighter, but inshallah I believe in my skillet and preparation and I will show that on Saturday night.
Saturday Nights’ Showdown
Damian told the BA crew that he was going to let his hands fly to take home the heavyweight championship. Do you have a response to that, and is what do you envision unfolding when you both collide.
Words mean nothing to me. I hope he comes prepared.
A win over Damian keeps your title with you and your undefeated record in-tact. What does the remainder of the year look like for you with a win? Have you got anything else planned?
I have a few fights lined up for November and even the end of this month. Some title fights as well.
