Heavyweights collide at Battle Arena Northampton on Saturday, with the current champ Anas Hamrad defending his belt again worthy contender Damian Gojski. These two hard-hitting heavyweights will surely steal the show and light up Northampton. The champion Anas is undefeated and has no intention of letting that change ahead of his first title defence.
Anas has stated he is working on himself rather than worrying about his opponent.
We got the thoughts of Anas on his opponent and how he has been preparing the May 20th.
Interview With Anas Hamrad
How are you feeling a few days out from your heavyweight title defence?
I am feeling good, Alhamdulillah, had a good camp. Ready and loaded for Saturday night.
How has the camp been and where have you been sharpening your skills?
Camp has been really good. I’ve been training here and there picking up knowledge from different gyms and sparring with different people. 4th Dimension in Nottingham has been the main sparring gym, but I have also been going to Renegade sparring with bigger boys. But day to day it’s been Cuba Gym.
Lay Off and Training
It’s been nearly a year since your last fight; has there been any reason for the lay off?
I had a passport problem so I had to stay in Morocco for about 6 months, when I got back, I had an injury so I couldn’t fight sooner, back I AM BACK NOW!
Have you had to make any adjustments in your training to deal with Damian?
Not really no. The whole point is to get better as a fighter in general and not only get ready for one person in particular. Been doing what we usually do.
What is the game plan going into this bout?
Game plan is always the same, get in there and pressure him, put him on the back foot and work on him.
Fight Night and the Rest of 2023
How do you see the fight playing out?
No matter how it plays out there will be only one outcome inshallah. The belt is coming back to Cuba gym in Leicester.
What are the plans for the rest of 2023 should you come out of the fight with no injuries?
I want to get in there again soon after the fight if there are no injuries. Probably get a few more before the end of the year.
