This year, Bellator will continue their European card output, with a card taking place in Wembley on Friday, May 13th. Looking forward to this card, North East fighter Andrew Fisher will be returning to the promotion. His opponent standing opposite him at the OVO Arena? Attila Korkmaz.
Andrew Fisher vs. Attila Korkmaz
Fisher is an experienced fighter from Sunderland, boasting an impressive record of 18-8-1 across his career. He hopes to add another win to that, coming off of a no-contest in his last outing. In regards to that fight, Fisher told The Sunderland Echo, “It is what it is. I was doing good in that fight, but you can’t dwell on it too much, can you?” It was an unfortunate ending to the fight as a win for Fisher could have potentially put him into contender status, but he hopes a win here will have the same benefit.
Andrew Fisher isn’t just a successful fighter. Alongside this, he coaches several fighters from his gym, TFT MMA in Seaham. Home to a plethora of amateur talent and even high-level professionals, KSW champion Phil De Fries and Golden Ticket title contender Perry Goodwin, to name but two.
“The Fearless” Attila Korkmaz is not here to make up the numbers. A top European contender with a 12-6-0 record, Korkmaz will be making his Bellator debut against Fisher. For those who aren’t aware, there was a time when the two were both signed for Absolute Championship Berkut (ACB), but the timing wasn’t appropriate in their careers to be matched up. Now both are older and more experienced, the timing is right.
Korkmaz has never been finished in his pro career, with all of his losses coming on the judges’ cards. Both men have immense work rates and will be looking to leave with the win and could potentially be a dark horse for the fight of the night. Both men want to build positive momentum, but only one can leave with the victory.
Bellator London
This card will be available to view on BBC 3 on Friday, May 13th. Will we see Andrew Fisher’s hand raised to take a win back to Sunderland on his national ground, or will Attila Korkmaz spoil his night? Either way, positive momentum could put either man into the division’s top ten.
