In the lead-up to his highly anticipated clash with Francis Ngannou, two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua couldn’t resist a playful jab at both Ngannou and his British rival Tyson Fury.
Ngannou’s stunning knockdown of Fury during their bout in 2023 sent shockwaves through the boxing world, yet ultimately ended in a narrow defeat for the UFC crossover.
Despite Ngannou’s strong showing against Fury, Joshua remains unfazed, determined to go one step further and secure victory over the former UFC star. Scheduled for just over two weeks from now, this super-fight promises fireworks.
Boxer Anthony Joshua Hammers Tyson Fury Ahead of Francis Ngannou Fight
During their DAZN face-off, Joshua downplayed Ngannou’s memorable knockdown, brushing off concerns about his own resilience compared to Fury’s legendary recovery abilities. Ngannou expressed doubts about Joshua’s ability to bounce back from a similar blow, citing Fury’s remarkable resilience in past fights.
Ngannou remarked, “Yeah, I have a doubt about that [whether Joshua would get up from the same punch Tyson got]. Tyson showed that he is very resilient, I saw him come back from knockdowns that you wouldn’t believe [against Deontay Wilder]. He is probably one of the most resilient people out there, and this is not a disrespect to AJ, but I don’t believe that AJ would have taken what Tyson took.”
In response, Joshua countered, “Who hasn’t knocked Tyson down? So many people have knocked Tyson down.”
Mega Fight
Fury’s knockdown against Ngannou marked the seventh time he had hit the canvas throughout his sixteen-year career, including previous knockdowns by Neven Paikich, Steve Cunningham, and Deontay Wilder (x4).
As the showdown between Joshua and Ngannou draws nearer, anticipation continues to build, with fans eagerly awaiting the outcome of this monumental clash in the heavyweight division.
