Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois has been announced in a launch press conference. This bout is scheduled for September 21st in Wembley Stadium and no doubt will sell well. This fight will be for the IBF world title with Dubois being the champion due to Usyk vacating belt and Dubois being ranked number 1 with the IBF. This is due to Dubois defeating Hrgovic on the Matchroom vs Queensberry show.
Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois
This is the Saudis first show in the UK and they certainly don’t start small. Joshua vs Dubois is a massive fight and Wembley is the perfect setting an all-British title fight. Dubois due to Usyk vacating and being Usyk’s mandatory has been elevated to full IBF champion. And so Anthony Joshua will be challenging Daniel Dubois for the title.
Stylistically this is an excellent match-up. Daniel Dubois is a young hungry contender who is an absolute destroyer who has the firepower to take out AJ. Dubois has the youth, hunger, athleticism, and power to get the job done. He has a thudding jab and power in both hands and is more than willing to let his hands go. Doubt about Dubois heart has been put to rest with his performances against Miller and Hrgovic overcoming serious adversity to get the job done. However, he has shown a leaky defence seen in the Hrgovic fight which Joshua could capitalise on.
Anthony Joshua the Olympic gold medallist and former unified world champion is also willing to bring the heat. The British public and boxing fans are no stranger to Joshua and the heat he brings. Joshua like Dubois packs serious fire power being able to crack with either hand and an athlete. Joshua also posses excellent combination punching when he lets his hands go and is a force to be reckoned with. And after doubts of being gun shy has linked up with Ben Davison to produce devastating finishes against Wallin and Ngannou. In those fights he demonstrated his old ability to go after opponents and use his combinations. But it should be noted Wallin ad Ngannou aren’t on Dubois level.
The Undercard
The undercard as with most Saudi shows is looking pretty snazzy and has been appropriately UK-themed. The co-main event is interestingly enough another IBF world title fight Anthony Cacace vs Josh Warrington. Cacace just recently became IBF super featherweight champion actually on a Saudi show with a TKO win in round 8 over Joe Cordina. His opponent is Josh Warrington former IBF champion in the weight class below. Warrington has shown issues recently losing 2 in his last 3 but is always willing to bring the heat.
Under that, we have a light heavyweight bout between Joshua Buatsi and Willy Hutchinson. Hutchinson also had success on a Saudi show recently in the Matchroom vs Queensberry 5v5. He outclassed Craig Richards in a career-best performance and is on the rise. His opponent Joshua Buatsi recently has not been on the best form but has been winning and is a dangerous operator. This fight will be for the WBO interim belt the winner essentially becoming the WBO mandatory at 175lbs.
We also have another victor from the Matchroom vs Queensberry 5v5 with Hamzah Sheeraz facing off against Tyler Denny. The young hungry Sheeraz is looking to rise as a contender in the middleweight division. No doubt he will make use of his length and power against Tyler Denny. Another middleweight bout is on this card with Josh Kelly vs Liam Smith. Smith is an ageing former world champ who is still game and lost to Eubank Jr in a rematch. Kelly is a rough and technically limited domestic fighter making his debut at middleweight. There’s also a lightweight bout between Michael Chamberlain vs Josh Padley.
Although not as impressive as previous Saudi cards this is still a great card and will deliver.
