Despite the Professional Fighters League (PFL) returning Saturday night triumphantly in Las Vegas, across the country, Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis was achieving a lifelong dream, stepping into the boxing ring against former four-weight World-Champion, Roy Jones JR.
Pettis, a former UFC and WEC world champion, initially fought in the PFL last year before succumbing to a post-season loss, headlined the card from the Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee. Former UFC legends, such as Jose Aldo, Vitor Belfort and Jacare Souza, are filled to the brim. Pettis duly delivered, securing the win on his professional boxing debut via majority decision. Two judges scored it 77-75 in his favour, while a third scored the bout 76-76.
Anthony Pettis Talks Future Endeavours
“I’m not done with MMA yet,” Pettis said post-fight. “[I] still have some MMA left in me. [I] definitely want to move up to 170 pounds. I think doing that tournament [in PFL] at 155, I just couldn’t be myself. I was cutting weight too much. [I] didn’t feel good in the training camp..I’m a free agent right now, so I get to sit back and take the fights as they come. I’m in a good spot.”
Whilst Pettis said he wants an MMA return, he also announced his intentions to fight Anderson Silva in a boxing match.
“I’d love to fight Anderson Silva and that was supposed to happen in the UFC,” he said. “For me, the weight definitely matters. But I’m gonna pay attention to my coaches. I’m one of those guys, anywhere, anytime — it doesn’t matter the ruleset, I’m down to fight.”
Despite stating he’s a free agent, Pettis seemingly confirmed a return the PFL later this year.
“The PFL is a great company. They definitely show a lot of support,” Pettis said. “I’m looking forward to fighting back for them at the end of the year.”

This comes just a little while after PFL officially announced a PPV superfight division. In which all fighters earn 50% of revenue from the PPV buys.
