It has been a long time coming for this top of the rankings match-up. However, Dana White has finally confirmed it is all but done. Arnold Allen currently sits at #6 and his opponent Calvin Kattar is at #5.
Huge steaks for each man, a win could see them propel their name into title contention. With current champion Alexander Volkanovski currently healing up an injury, the timeline seems perfect.
The champion has said multiple times that he will fight whoever, they just have to “show me something”. This fight might be the one where someone shows the champ something he’s been looking for.
Arnold Allen
Arnold Allen is a name that is severely underrated when it comes to MMA. Hailing from England, he doesn’t have the brash personality and boisterous persona like many others from these shores. However, as soon as he steps into the cage it’s showtime, and he shows up.
18-1 as a professional he is currently riding an eleven-fight winning streak, which sees him sit 9-0 in the UFC. With one of the longest active winning streaks, Arnold Allen isn’t far from earning his title opportunity.
Of his nine UFC wins he has only finished three which draws some criticism. However, his performance last time out at UFC London in March was electric. Taking out a seasoned Dan Hooker. Arnold went swinging and looking for the kill, and he got it at 2:33 into round one.
Allen is a fighter who always seems to rise to the occasion. Always picking his level up when fighting stiffer competition. He uses his high fight IQ, to play to his strengths and his opponent’s weaknesses. Picking them apart across the fight.
Calvin Kattar
Looking to defeat Allen in the octagon for the first time will be Calvin Kattar. The American fighter has had a quick rise in the UFC. This can be credited to his fun-fight style and technical striking ability.
23-6 he will be the more experienced man on the 29th. Sitting at the top of the division for a few years now, he has picked up some losses along the way. However, all were against upper echelon fighters and he held a good account of himself in all of them.
His UFC run has seen him go 7-4, finishing four of his seven wins all via KO/TKO. Last time out he suffered an extremely tight split decision loss to Josh Emmet in a fight many claimed should have gone Calvin’s way.
One of the best boxers in the UFC. Calvin is a dream to watch fight when he’s on his game. Ever improving, each time he steps into the cage we see something new. He has never suffered back-to-back losses and doesn’t want to start the trend now.
The Fight
A tremendous match-up among the Featherweight elite, both are highly skilled and highly ranked. Each man rises to the occasion so expect them to give as good as they get. This could be a momentous win for either man and might just see them challenge for gold in the near future.
