Arnold Allen is one of the best fighters the UK have to offer right now. Currently #6 in the Featherweight division. He is on the cusp of challenging for championship gold. Last competing in March at UFC London, where he defeated the fan favourite Dan Hooker.
Unable to find an opponent for the most recent UFC London. Arnold Allen is in the sights of another top Featherweight, who wants a showdown with the Brit. #5 Calvin Kattar’s coach has come out and discussed the possibility between the two fighters.
A Potential Match-up
While attending UFC London as a guest, Arnold Allen said that he was looking for a top 5 opponent next time out. It seems that ask and you shall receive. Kattar’s coach, Tyson Chartier took to Instagram and said “We already said yes last fall and have asked the UFC again this week.”
So it appears both men want the fight. From a divisional standpoint, it lines up perfectly. With the Featherweight picture blown wide open due to recent events. After champion Alexander Volkanovski is out for an extended period after suffering an injury in his most recent bout.
Calvin Kattar is most recently coming off of a main event loss to #4 Josh Emmett. A close affair, in which it could have gone either way both men shone and neither lost any steam. A contest with Allen seems perfect for both men, and with a win, they would be one fight away from challenging for gold.
Styles Make Fight
Arnold Allen, 28, had been criticised for his lack of finishing abilities. However, last time out he put these to bed finishing Dan Hooker in round number one. A class striker who has all the tools necessary to hang with the best. He currently finds himself riding an unbelievable 11-fight winning streak (9-0) in UFC. 18-1 as a pro, a statement win over a top fighter in Calvin Kattar cements Allen as a title contender.
Calvin is also primarily a striker. Using his world-class boxing to piece up opponents, his losses have come to the very best. With a career record of 23-6 (7-4 UFC). He has finished 11 of his wins via KO/TKO. Now at 34, he needs to begin his surge to title contention and a win over Allen will put him in prime position.
A fight that makes sense on every level. It needs to happen. Two men who have been ever evolving since joining the UFC, the striking abilities on display would be outrageous. #4 vs #6 Would be must-watch MMA action.
