Austin Trout is a highly touted former boxing champion. He is known for giving Canelo Alvarez a hard fight in a losing effort and fighting all the top names at super welterweight. In his boxing career Trout racked up a record of 37 wins-5 losses-1 draw having a very respectable career. And in his boxing career he is currently riding a 6 fight win streak against nobodies his last fight being October last year.
Well in February last year he decided to try out BKFC bareknuckle boxing. And it turned out he was pretty good at it. So much so he gave it another go February this year. At BKFC 57 he defeated Luis Palamino by decision to win the welterweight title. He then had his first title defence October 12th against Rico Franco.
Austin Trout Remains Bare Knuckle Champion
From the get go and throughout the fight Trout’s boxing pedigree shone through. Round 1 both men were a little hesitant and tried to find their range. Franco growing inpatient tried to blitz Trout however Trout let a combination go. Towards the end of the round they had another close up exchange this time Trout putting Franco down with a left. Franco survived the round.
Round 2 did see success from Franco who was able to get off some body shots as he pressured forward. However, it was not all Franco as Trout landing a nice right hook and his jab. Franco was also able to land his jab.
Round 3 Trout continued to build success. Trout had success with a jabs to the body. He also landed other shots to the head and body of Franco. But, Franco did land some body shots of his own and a nice right hand upstairs.
Round 4 saw more success from Trout. Trout was able to catch Franco with lefts and right eventually scoring another knockdown with a right hand. Franco continued to press forward and try to clinch but Trout was able to get off shots up close.
Round 5 was action packed as Franco continued to press forward. Both men were willing to trade and would keep doing so in a slugfest. Towards the end Trout was getting the better of the exchanges hurting Franco against the ropes. Franco managed to survive and see the final bell.
Austin Trout was awarded the unanimous decision victory 50-43 around the board securing his first title defence in BKFC. The former boxing world champion continues to find success in BKFC. His superior boxing skills and defensive prowess mark him out in BKFC. May he continue to have success in this new career he has found.
