Things are heating up between UFC Welterweight champion Belal “Remember The Name” Muhammad and 3-time title challenger Colby Covington
Belal Muhammad claimed Welterweight gold last week at UFC 304 in Manchester, England. It was a one-sided shut-out decision victory over home countryman Leon “Rocky” Edwards in enemy territory.
For all his dominance along his 10-fight win streak former title challenger Colby “Chaos” Covington discredited the new champion. Covington is 0-3 in title fights losing twice to Kamaru Usman and once to the aforementioned Leon Edwards.
Colby Covington lost to Edwards back in December 2023 at UFC 296. The dominant fashion of Leon’s victory over Colby speaks to the ability of Muhammad.
Regardless of his dominance, in typical “Chaos” fashion Colby is unimpressed by Belal.
Belal Muhammad Claps Back at Colby Covington
Colby Covington admits that whilst he did not watch UFC 304 he is unimpressed by the outcome. He believed that he knew Edwards would lose to Belal because he was “Not hungry anymore.”
In an interview with Submission Radio Covington went in on Leon and Belal:
“I know that Leon made so much money in the last fight with me, that I don’t think he’s hungry anymore. I think he’s lost his motivation… He’s not the type of guy that’s gonna get knocked down, get back up and fight harder. He’s a quitter… You can tell he just doesn’t have that hunger anymore. I think that’s the last we saw of him. Now Leon can go back to the prelims where he belongs.”
Continuing on a vintage Covington rant he tore into Belal Muhammad stating:
“The guy’s a f****** p****. The only time that [Belal Muhammad] wanted to fight me was when I already had a title fight signed… That’s the only time he’s wanted to fight me. Otherwise, he’s never said my name because he’s a little b*tch. He knows what I would do to him. If I cross paths with him, he won’t be champion anymore. He won’t be a man anymore. I will take his man card. … I’d love to fight him. I hope that fight happens. I’ll do whatever it takes to get to that.”
Following this tirade, the Welterweight champion has responded.
Belal Muhammad Claps Back at Colby Covington “Let Me See You in Public”
Belal Muhammad has since clapped back at Covington. Claiming that he hopes Colby works his way to a title shot so that he can get his hands on him.
In an interview with MMA Junkie, he addressed Colby’s callout:
“I hope he goes on a good run and beats some of these contenders and figures a way out to fight me in the cage. But all you’ve got to do is find me at a steakhouse and we’ll see if you keep that same energy.”
He continued by scalding Covington’s chances of getting another title shot:
“He’s a joke,” Muhammad said. “What is he, 0-3 in title fights? All I needed was one time to do it. You’ll never touch the gold. You’ll never be who I am. Just keep talking, brother. You said keep that same energy when I see you. Please. I beg you. Let me see. I beg you. Let me see you in public, because unless he actually fights other guys, he’s not going to get another shot.”
“Remember The Name” has said that he hopes to be an active champion eyeing a return before the end of the year. Furthermore, he welcomed a callout from undefeated Welterweight wrecking force “Nomad” Shavkat Rakhmonov.
Coming off a dominant victory over Edwards, does Belal have all the skills necessary to end the mounting Shavkat streak?
