Belal Muhammad is and has been ready for a welterweight title shot for quite some time, and it’s just unfortunate that the UFC seems hesitant to pull the trigger on a title fight that makes sense for the division.
As it sits now, Belal Muhammad is ranked in the number two spot and is on a nine-fight winning streak. His only blemish is a “No contest” to the current champ Leon Edwards, due to an eye poke early into the second round that left Belal unable to continue.
Belal Muhammad Not Offered Leon Edwards Title Fight
Now it is unfortunate that Dana White held such regard for Leon Edwards after UFC 298, giving the current welterweight champ high praise after (behind closed doors) he accepted fights with three different opponents for UFC 300.
As news broke that Jamahal Hill vs. Alex Pereira will be the headliner for what promises to be a monumental night at UFC 300, many fight fans seemed a little disappointed after a lot of hype surrounded the main event, but more than likely Belal Muhammad was the most disappointed hearing the UFC 300 announcement.
It was a head scratcher that a deal wasn’t made and no fight became official out of the three accepted fights.
It wasn’t until The Schmo posted on his social media that the MMA world was informed that Belal Muhammad was not one of the men offered to fight at UFC 300 with Edwards.
“Can confirm Belal Muhammad was NOT one of the 3 fighters offered to Leon Edwards for #UFC300.”
Easy to Market Belal Muhammad vs. Leon Edwards 2
Could the rematch be delayed because the UFC fears that it wont have any marketability behind it? For some die hard fans who hold rankings to a high regard, Muhammad vs. Edwards 2 is an easy sell as there is no closure from their first fight and with the bad blood that has been boiling since the eye poke, it has an aura of excitement behind it.
Whether you love him or love to hate him, Belal Muhammad has earned his shot at UFC gold. So many fight fans are critical of Muhammad getting a shot at gold, but the situation Belal is in could be looked at it from a day-to-day job situation; you work so hard going above and beyond at your job to not get the promotion or raise you rightfully deserve.
Let’s hope Belal Muhammad doesn’t take a fight that could jeopardize his shot at UFC gold if he happens to lose.
