‘Funky’ Ben Askren hits back at, and declines, Jorge Masvidal’s offer to have their rematch in a boxing ring.
Askren began the exchange by posting a shirtless picture on Twitter with the caption “I’ve kept in great shape during retirement. I have zero desire to fight anyone except that loser Jorge.”
Masvidal’s Interview
Masvidal being the great showman that he is took a perfect opportunity in an interview with TMZ Sports to respond to Askren.
“Hey, Ben. I’ll beat your ass with both hands behind my back. Ben’s so bad at boxing. He’s the one that said it. Look, Ben, I’ll only give you the rematch in boxing, motherf*****. People will tune in because I can’t knee him in the face, right? Maybe Ben can ‘get his way now.’
“Hey, Ben, kiss my ass, you coming out of retirement. I’ll send you right back into it, motherf*****. This guy, bro. They shouldn’t have shown me that comment, you corny motherf*****.”
Ben Askren Replies
The former ONE champion persisted in trying to get ‘Gamebred’ back in the Octagon as he posted a screenshot of a text message to Dana White which read ‘I know I’m retired but I sure would love to beat up Jorge. Let me know if he is in’ indicating that Ben Askren is only interested in an MMA bout. The caption put the onus back on Jorge “Balls in your court mr BMF.”
To exaggerate his point even more ‘Funky’ followed that up with a quote tweet of his previous message stating clearly, “No I’m not going to box Jorge. If Jorge was really a BMF he will accept a rematch in MMA and not be a coward.”
In their previous meeting just over four years ago, Masvidal delivered the fastest-ever knockout in UFC history with the official timing of 0:05 in round one, however many agree it was earlier but the ref couldn’t stop it any quicker. This fight created the star power many know ‘Gamebred’ for now.
The BMF title that Askren keeps referring to is on the line again this Saturday as Justin Gaethje takes on Dustin Poirier at UFC 291.
Askren has boxed once before, and that was two years after he called time on his MMA career, against Jake Paul. The social media influencer finished the fight in the first round against the grappler specialist.
Masvidal carried on at the highest level of MMA until this April when he lost a decision to Gilbert Burns which was his fourth consecutive loss.
