Ben Askren isn’t desperate to return to fighting. However, there’s one name that he’d gladly fight if the opportunity presents itself.
Askren admitted that a rematch with his former foe Jorge Masvidal would entice him back into competition. That said, he doesn’t feel Masvidal would run the fight back due to his ego being damaged.
Ben Askren Eyes Rematch With Jorge Masvidal
Speaking on Funky and The Champ, Askren said he’d fight Masvidal immediately, believing he would embarrass the former BMF title holder.
“When he said he’ll retire I’m like, ‘Okay, whatever.’ [But] that’s the only fight I want. I don’t want to fight anyone else, I don’t really like fighting anymore. [I] coach wrestling, that’s it. But if he wants to fight, I would love to fight him,” Askren pointed out.
“That’s why he won’t do it and he’s not scared of fighting and he’s not scared of like the pain right. But there’s multiple fears, what he’s scared of is being embarrassed… I’ll pull his hair and rub his face in the ground for about 15 minutes and uh leave him with some matt burns here he’ll be real real embarrassed… He’s not scared of a fight, he’s not scared of a physical occupation, he’s scared of being embarrassed and losing status that’s what he’s fearful of,” he added.
Revenge
In 2019 at UFC 239, Ben Askren was on the wrong end of a viral and historic five-second knockout, which catapulted “Gamebred’s” career to unimaginable heights. For that reason, the result still stings the 39-year-old, and it’s one he’d love to get back.
“That’s all I want listen, very few times in life do we get one back, I would love to get one back you know, I would like to try again that’s what I would like… beat him for 15 minutes,” Askren said.
Masvidal retired following his loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287, but his name has still been at the tip of Masvidal’s tongue. The Miami brawler recently called out “Funky” for a boxing match, which Askren quickly shut down. But for MMA, count Askren in.
