Interview With Ben Hastie
An all-Ben clash at Rise and Conquer 13 next month. Two quality opponents who always deliver. What can the fans expect to see from you pair when the cage door closes in the Rainton Arena?
The fans can expect two young, hungry fighters going at it with something to prove. That’s always a good combination for a great fight.
Your combat sports career has started extremely well thus far. A win in kickboxing and two in MMA. What do you put your amateur success down to thus far, and why has everything been running so smoothly?
It’s down to the work I put in the gym. I’m never out of the place, constantly training and trying to get better. I never switch off from it, either. Whether that’s watching tape or drilling techniques, my mind is on this 24/7, and I believe that’s contributed to my success thus far.
Ben Hastie Talks Comfortability In MMA
You’ve shown your all-around game in your two MMA outings, submitting and stopping your opponent with punches at the Goliath Fight Series. How rewarding is it that early on, knowing you are comfortable whether the fight goes?
It’s vital to be comfortable in all areas of mma, especially now with the way the sport is evolving. The fight can go anywhere in the blink of an eye, and you have to be well-versed in all areas to deal with that. And I have confidence in my abilities in all areas.
Last time out, you got Rhys out of there within three rounds. Despite the win, was there anything in that showing you were hard on yourself for?
Like every fight, there are things you look back on and things you need to work. That’s the beauty of amateur mma. You learn so much every time you step in there. In my last fight, there were things I did well and things I didn’t do well. Like I said, I am constantly learning and improving.
Opponent
Ben Hay’s the man across the cage from you on October 7th. Watching the tape, what do you think of him and his previous fights?
I think it’s going to be a great fight with Ben. He comes to fight every time and looks like a gamer. Like any opponent, I’ll be looking to capitalize on things, but I’ve been more focused on what I’m looking to implement in this fight.
In all your wins, the judges haven’t been needed, same with your opponent in is wins and losses. Is it safe to say the judges’ can take the night off when the cage door closes on you both?
Correct, I believe this fight won’t be going the distance, and on October 7th, I’ll be heading back up the road to Scotland with a W.
