Ben Masterton Ready to Make a Statement
The excitement is building as Scottish MMA fans gear up for Goliath Fight Series, where Ben Masterton is set to face Imran Hassan in a highly anticipated 61kg bout on February 8th at Alloa Town Hall. Riding a two-fight win streak, Masterton is eager to kick off 2025 in style and make up for lost time after a frustrating 2024.
We sat down with Ben to discuss his upcoming fight, the challenges of the past year, and what lies ahead in his MMA journey.
“I had a great 2023 and wanted to carry that onto 2024,” Masterton explained when asked about his limited activity last year,”Unfortunately, I had three fights fall through due to opponents pulling out. It was annoying, but it happens.”
Now focused on turning the page, Masterton is determined to maximize his opportunities in 2025, “As I said above, I wanted to have more fights last year, so I’m looking to make up for that this year and get plenty more wins under my belt.”
Preparation
When asked about how this camp has differed from previous ones, Masterton emphasized the improvements he’s made in key areas of his preparation:
“This camp has been pretty routine. I feel really good in my training schedule. This time around, I feel my diet and weight cut has been the best out of all my fights.”
Standing in his way is Imran Hassan, an experienced fighter with a solid 4-1 record. Despite Hassan’s inactivity, Masterton isn’t underestimating his opponent:
“He’s an experienced fighter with a good 4-1 record. He seems to be a good matchup for me. I’m expecting a great fight as we’re both experienced and both have deep skill sets.”
With aspirations of securing gold, Masterton has his sights set on an amateur title in the near future. “This time next year, I want to have an amateur belt,” he confidently stated. “I feel like I’ll get another couple of wins, then win a couple of belts, and hopefully be one of the top-ranked bantamweights in Scotland.”
As for how he envisions his fight against Hassan unfolding, Masterton didn’t hold back when giving his prediction:
“This fight is going to be a highly entertaining matchup. It’s going to be fast-paced, and both of us will be looking for the finish. I believe I will put the pressure on him early and hurt him on the feet, finishing with either ground and pound or a quick submission in the first round.”
With his eyes set on making a statement, Ben Masterton is ready to electrify the crowd and continue his ascent in the Scottish MMA scene. Don’t miss the action on February 8th at Alloa Town Hall, it promises to be a night to remember.
