Beneil Dariush moves to an eight-fight winning streak as he defeats Mateusz Gamrot via unanimous decision at UFC 280.
An all-action first round is incredibly competitive. Gamrot initiates the takedowns but Beneil rolls with them well and gets his offence in. Constant submission threats for Beneil Dariush allow him to get back to his feet time and time again.
The second plays out mainly on the feet. With Mateusz Gamrot still trying to get the fight down, it’s Beneil defence that prevails. Dariush’s stand-up has really begun to show this round, with his hands looking crisp. Knees down the middle for Beneil kept the Gamrot takedowns at bay.
Gamrot can get the fight to the mat, but once it’s there it’s clear Dariush has the advantage. His ability to scramble and threaten danger is immense. At the halfway point of round three, another deep takedown is brushed off by Beneil. Both men are standing off before Dariush unleashes a ferocious left hand dropping Gamrot. Recovering well Mateusz attempts another takedown to no avail. Beneil rightly earns the unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.
What’s Next?
6 before this win, and now on an eight-fight winning streak next for Dariush should be the very top. A number-one contenders fight makes sense. With teammate Justin Gaethje an unlikely next foe. Any of the other top 155lbs fighters would be perfect.
However, if things go well and the timeline works we could see him get a shot at the belt. If Charles wins later in the night a match at UFC 283 would be eletric.
Is gold next for Beneil Dariush?
