Arman Tsarukyan knocked out Beneil Dariush last Saturday. It was the worst defeat of his career. Dariush has been near the lightweight elite for many years now. Furthermore, he has always been close to a title shot. After the defeat, he wonders what is next for his career.
Beneil Dariush An Unsung Hero
Dariush has been a great fighter in the lightweight division for many years. He has produced many great performances throughout his time in the UFC. There was a lot of excitement around his clash with Tsarukyan. The fight ended, as Dariush lost in the first round. A beautiful combination from Tsarukyan put him away. It would have stopped anybody. The loss is a significant setback in Dariush ‘s career. It is because it’s his second KO loss in a row. It has left many people, including himself, wondering what is next for the lightweight.
Retirement On The Mind?
Dariush spoke to Submission Radio. He talked about what’s next and whether retirement is on his mind.
“It’s tough to explain. The best way I like to put it is I’m still wrestling with it,” Beneil Dariush said. “I have this process I go through in the morning, I wake up and say, ‘Dang, I lost.’ Remember I told you guys I felt like I didn’t show up for that fight (against Oliveira)? I was like, ‘Man, I did something wrong in camp. I’m going to go back and fix it.’
“That was my focus, ‘I’m gonna go back and fix my camp and go into his fight, and everything will be better.’ I had a good camp for this fight,” Dariush continued. “Then I got to the fight and didn’t show up again. So now, it goes from an issue of not showing up to an issue of not having it anymore. I guess that’s the difference between this fight and the last fight.”
