Billy Joe Saunders was one of the biggest boxers from the United Kingdom and it has been revealed by Izzy Asif he had offers to return.
Saunders hasn’t fought since 2021 but rumours have swirled since about a potential return to the ring.
GBM promoter Izzy Asif has revealed that those rumours were solid including a huge offer to face Chris Eubank Jr.
Asif revealed that he was apart of the Saunders team and they were very close to finalising a deal for a return.
“I’m going to tell you know, this is no secret, Billy will tell you, we were really close in negotiations. An offer was on the table for the Eubank team. I was involved in the deal, I was part of Billy’s team, and there were talks of it.”
Chris Eubank Jr has now moved on to a mega fight with Conor Benn on April 26th.
Despite this fight Asif could see a future where both Eubank Jr and Billy Joe Saunders can face off in the ring again.
“But listen, I’m not going to say anything else, It could happen again. That fight could happen. Eubank-Billy Joe, great fight, real rivalry, no acting up, they genuinely don’t like each other.”
Billy Joe Saunders Has Been Inactive-
The two have faced off in the ring before back in 2014 where Saunders won via Majority Decision to capture British, Commonwealth and European Middleweight titles.
Saunders has been quiet on a return since losing to Canelo Alvarez in a mega fight back in 2021.
The fight saw Saunders defeated Via 8th round corner retirement.
It was a war of a fight which caused major damage to Saunders and his eye eventually causing a end to the fight.
Although nothing concrete has come about a Saunders return since losing his first professional fight, Saunders has still been in training.
His sparring partner Senad Gashi (34-4) has expressed his delight about being able to train with Saunders.
He’s on his way back. He is one of the best middleweights in history and I’ve watched all his fights. He is a legend. [Training with him] is just unbelievable.”
