Billy Quarantillo rallies in the second to secure a TKO stoppage over Alexander Hernandez at UFC 282. Using his incredible gas tank, Billy waited for Alex to wain before dishing out a gruelling beat down.
Round 1
A grapple-heavy first round for Hernandez is a success. Using his strength and size to push Billy back to the cage he controlled well. Once the fight returned to the centre Billy was landing well with his jab as Hernandez looked for bombs.
Just after the midway point, Alex secured a takedown and had an arm triangle from half-guard. Abandoning the submission attempt he threw some ground and pound, landing a big elbow that split Quarantillo open.
Round 2
With Hernandez looking to replicate his first-round display, he secured a takedown early. However, with fatigue setting in, Billy Quarantillo’s engine remained untouched. Regaining his feet and keeping Alex at bay he began to produce on the feet.
Landing shot after shot he has Hernandez wobbled and secured a takedown. Back on the feet, Billy Quarantillo pours on relentless pressure landing heavy blows. The referee has no choice as Billy punishes a tired Alexander Hernandez. Securing the second-round TKO win.
What’s Next?
Back in the win column and taking out a tough and game Alexander Hernandez. This win shows Quarantillo is a force that can challenge the top 15 at Featherweight.
At 34, he is in what many consider to be the sport’s prime. Getting back into the flow of things after a long layoff would be good for Billy. An opponent on the periphery of the top 15 would be the perfect next step for Billy.
With a record of 17-4, his UFC losses have come to top opposition. Putting these in his rearview mirror, moving forward Billy could become a real problem at Featherweight.
