After a successful debut victory earlier in the year, Snær will travel to Wolverhampton, England and face the debuting Jack Spencer on September 2nd. The fights will take place at the K.K Steelmill and feature some of the country’s hottest up-and-coming talents.
Ahead of fight night, we had the chance to talk up with Björgvin Snær. Hear his thoughts below.
Interview With Björgvin Snær
Not long until you make the walk for the second time as an amateur. How have things been since securing your first career win three months ago?
I’ve been working hard since the win in May, working on every detail and adding things to my arsenal. It was a great fight.
Touching on your debut win over Jens, how important was it for you to kickstart your amateur career on a positive note, and was there anything about the whole process that caught you off guard, or were you relatively comfortable?
It did not really surprise me. It was mostly about going in there and getting the fight experience. I’ve been trying to get my debut out the way for a long time, but so many pullouts and trouble finding fights have been a problem for me since mma is illegal to compete in in Iceland, so I always have to travel overseas. The fight was short and a domination, and I was really comfortable in the cage.
Björgvin Snær Talks Journey Into MMA
Talk to us; for the guys we’ve not spoken to in the past, we love to ask them about their journey into mixed martial arts and why it’s a path they’ve decided to pursue. What enticed you to walk through the doors of a gym for the first time?
Fighting has been in my life forever, and mma is the ultimate and most real fighting sport there is. My family had good contacts with the Gunnar Nelson family, and he was a big inspiration for me to get into the sport, so I moved alone from my hometown into Reykjavík, where mjölnir is to train mma.
I believe this will be your first time travelling to the UK and competing. How much are you looking forward to doing so, and how valuable do you think the experience will be moving forward in your career?
This will not be my first time in the UK. I’ve been there a couple of times. I was supposed to fight on Golden Ticket in 2022 in September, but my opponent lost weight by 4.5 kg, and my coach would not let it slide. Golden Ticket is a great platform for me to showcase my skills, and im looking forward to using my right to do so on September 2nd.
Fighting in The UK
With that, you’re a blank canvas to the UK fans, with nobody knowing what to expect from you. Can you give us a tease? What can we expect to see from Bjorgvin Snaer on fight night?
You can expect a high level of performance from me.
September 2nd, you face Jack Spencer, a man who’s yet to make the walk in his career. Do you feel you have any mental edge, given the fact you’ve made the walk and got those debut jitters out of the way, or are you not looking into that much?
I know it’s his debut, and I might have the mental edge, but I don’t know anything about him, so there is also that. But I am ready for anything.
