Bo Nickal dismissed the fact that UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev would be a D1 wrestling champion.
Whilst initially praising Makhachev for his wrestling ability Nickal believes the Dagestan fighter would struggle.
The middleweight also believes that Carter Starocci would beat Macheav easily in a wrestling competition.
Bo Nickal Questions Islam Macheav’s Wrestling Prowess
Following on from this, a post on X (formerly Twitter) was released stating how Islam Makhachev would dominate the D1 wrestling competitions in America. Whilst many agreed with this post Bo Nickal dismissed this and commented; “Let’s consider a few things. Islam would have to wrestle 174 given the amount of weight he cuts.
“He comes from the mountains of Dagestan which historically produces some of the toughest people on the planet. Islam’s MMA wrestling is the highest level, which already makes him a formidable opponent. “
“He’s got tons of competition experience, strength, endurance, and great technique, and a high IQ. Islam has taken down everyone put in front of him with relative ease. “
Bo Nickal then went to say; “With that being said @carterstarocci wins by pin 1st period.”
MMA Fans Unsure on Bo Nickal
After his initial response Bo Nickal was ridiculed by MMA fans. Many of them believe that that wrestling in Dagestan, Russia is a complete new challenge with many Americans having struggled against wrestlers. This includes Henry Cejudo, an Olympic Gold medallist who lost all three of his wrestling matches against Dagestan fighters. Furthermore, Makhachev is know for his incredible wrestling skills and sambo style which has resulted in seven submission finishes in his UFC career.
However, others believe Nickal is right and Islam Makhachev would struggle against America’s elite wrestlers. Given the pedigree and ability of Carter Starocci who is a four time NCAA champion it would make an interesting encounter.
