In Bo Nickal’s eyes his UFC 300 victory was not impressive. Nickal submitted Cody Brundage in the second round and immediately put up two thumbs down. A fellow middleweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev, agreed with the notion of the thumbs down.
“This wrestling was big bullsh*t,” Chimaev said on X in a now deleted tweet.
Bo Nickal Responds to Chimaev
Nickal immediately responded to the comments from Chimaev at the UFC 300 post fight press conference.
“This guy [is] crazy man. Obviously, like I said, I’m not happy with the way I performed either, so it’s easy to be critical. It’s easy to be critical of me, a guy who has less experience, but at the end of the day, I’m getting finishes, this guy is winning decisions. He’s gassing out at the end of rounds, I’m widening the gap,” Nickal said at the UFC 300 post fight press conference.
Nickal didn’t stop there.
“If we ever fight, he’s coming out hot, but I’m probably winning the first round, second round, third round against this dude and widening the gap. Every day I’m widening the gap on that guy, to be honest,” Nickal concluded.
Bo Nickal Wasn’t Happy With the Win
Nickal, who remained undefeated with his submission victory against Brundage, was not impressed with himself. The former Penn State wrestler holds himself to the highest level and alluded to the fact that he needs to be better going forward.
“I feel like I’m a little bit embarrassed with that performance, just because I expect to go out there and completely dominate and shut this guy out and I gave him a little bit too many opportunities,” Nickal told Joe Rogan in the Octagon interview.
As aforementioned when the fight concluded, Nickal gave himself two thumbs down and boo’d himself. While many are surprised to see Nickal be so harsh on himself, it goes to show the fans of the sport just how highly the UFC middleweight contender views himself.
Nickal also addressed the negative fan reception he dealt with during fight week.
“I’m just grateful for all the people who support me. And I think all the people that wanna see me lose, I’m gonna turn you guys around, I love you guys. I appreciate y’all. The more I win these fights, I’m going to keep climbing up. I’m gonna keep dominating and all of you are gonna love me, I guarantee it,” Nickal continued in the Octagon interview.
What’s Next?
Nickal now sits at 6-0 professionally, 3-0 in the UFC with a 100% finish rate. He hopes to return to the Octagon ideally in August. Nickal also predicts that by his twelfth fight, fans should expect to see him fighting for a title.
“I’m 28, I got a long career ahead of me.I want to fight a better guy. That’s the thing for me, every single fight I’m gonna fight better and better guys. I think people forget, I’m now 6-0 and most the guys I’m fighting have 15, 20 fights,” Nickal said in the Octagon interview. “I think by the time I’m 10, 12-0 I’ll be fighting for the belt.”
