Bobby Green reflects on tough loss to Jalin Turner with grace.
Maintaining resilience after a challenging defeat, Bobby Green showcases a positive outlook despite the late-stoppage controversy against Jalin Turner at UFC Austin.
In their lightweight co-headliner at Moody Center, Austin, Texas, Green (31-15-1 MMA, 12-10-1 UFC) faced adversity early on, being knocked down by Turner (14-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) in the first round. The bout took a contentious turn with a prolonged series of ground shots while Green was already hurt, leading to widespread criticism directed at referee Kerry Hatley.

Even UFC CEO Dana White criticized the stoppage, deeming it “one of the worst I’ve ever seen.” Turner himself acknowledged the referee’s potential misjudgment.
Surprisingly, Green, in his initial statement post-defeat, harbored no resentment towards Hatley. Instead, he commended Turner for his commendable performance.
Green’s Mindset in The Wake of Defeat
“You win some, you lose some… I should show people [that] you’ve got to keep it G when you win, you’ve got to keep it G when you lose. Shout out to Jalin; you did your thing brother. I’m so happy for you. It means the world that you stepped up on short notice and you’re having your success. So, shout out to you. To all my people… [it’s] just another step in the career. There are ups, [and] there are downs. I’m going to keep it going. I ain’t going nowhere.”
Entering UFC Austin at 37 years old, Green had been riding a late-career wave, securing victories in his two previous fights against Tony Ferguson and Grant Dawson. While the setback against Turner posed a challenge, Green emphasizes that this is merely a part of his ongoing journey, signaling that there’s more to come.
