UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja is still clutching to his win over Brandon Moreno.
Brandon Moreno stunned audiences with a masterclass over Amir Albazi at UFC Edmonton. The Mexican dominated Albazi on the feet over the course of five rounds, in a fight that showed he is still championship level after recent hiccups.
Keeping a close eye on the fight was flyweight champion, Alexandre Pantoja. Pantoja beat Moreno to claim the title at UFC 290 – edging him out on the scorecards in a split decision victory, and he wasn’t shy in reminding the Mexican who’s the boss.
After Moreno’s win in Edmonton, Pantoja took to X to send Moreno a concise message and remind everyone who sits on the throne of the UFC flyweight division.
Alexandre Pantoja Reacts to Brandon Moreno UFC Edmonton Win
Pantoja was quick to label Moreno his “son” in reference to his victory over the 2x flyweight champion. This sparked some debate across social media with a potential rematch looming, depending on Pantoja’s next outing.
Translated from Portuguese, the post reads “Very good fight my son.”
Moreno is yet to respond to the post and is likely revelling in one of the best performances of his career.
The champion is currently scheduled to fight UFC debutant Kai Asakura at UFC 310 in December. It is likely that the result of this fight will decide on Moreno’s next step.
Despite a dominant showing in Canada, Moreno stayed grounded and addressed the fact he probably needs one or two more victories before thinking about another championship oppertuntiy.
