“The Great Ape” Alexander Hernandez along with teammate Brandon Royval, faced a terrifying encounter just hours before Hernandez fought at UFC 307
Last night at UFC 307 Alexander Hernandez defeated Austin Hubbard via decision. Hernandez has had a rocky ride in the UFC struggling to put together a solid win streak.
After returning to winning ways following his strong performance, Alexander would shock the media. In his post-fight interview, Hernandez let us in on the crazy encounter he experienced hours before his fight.
In his post-fight interview “The Great Ape” revealed that he and teammate Brandon Royval witnessed a shooting.
Vigilante Royval
Alexander Hernandez revealed that he along with UFC Flyweight Brandon “Rawdog” Royval witnessed a shooting. Not only did they see the shooting, but Royval took matters into his own hands, chasing down the shooter.
Hernandez stated:
“I was on the way home from breakfast and saw somebody get shot… My boy Rawdog [Brandon Royval] chased down the shooter, kinda crazy… I was like ‘Dude, we got s*** to do today bro, we ain’t got time to play, we got to get to the f**** hotel man’… That was crazy, but outside of that everyone’s been really friendly.”
When asked to elaborate Alexander went on to tell of how Brandon Royval seemed to enjoy the conflict:
“Walking home back to the hotel and we turn this corner to hear like five shots rattled off and Brandon loves to yell ‘gunshots’ and I’m like ‘It could be anything’ and he’s like ‘No it’s gunshots’ and boom, boom, boom – we hear another round and I’m like ‘That sounds a little gunshotty.’ Then we kind of stop for a minute, people start running through the street and crowding around and this guy’s wagging his tail like he’s a little too excited about these gunshots.”
Brandon Royval Chases Down Shooter Hours Before UFC 307
Former Flyweight title challenger Royval did not stop there in his hunt for the shooter. In the words of Hernandez, Royval was “on the f****** prowl like Sherlock Holmes”:
“These guys come panting like running past us and Brandon goes to him ‘Hey what’s happening’ and this guy’s like ‘Nothing, just run’… It turns out that was the guy with the gun and this f***** guy like a f***** Doberman comes running after him too! I’m like ‘Dude, we’ve got to go the other way’, but if there’s anything I learned from this week it’s like don’t ever try and chase Brandon cause he’ll find us and I start going back to the hotel, and he’s on the f***** prowl like Sherlock Holmes, like chasing after him.”
Given the chaotic start to “The Great Ape’s” fight day it makes his victory all the more impressive. Equally surprising is Royval’s eagerness for conflict given his UFC Fight Night main event next weekend.
Brandon Royval faces off against undefeated Flyweight Tatsuro Taira on Saturday 12th October at UFC Fight Night Las Vegas. Royval and his team FactoryX will be happy he emerged unscathed from the vigilante shooter hunt given the calibre of opponent he faces next week.
