Former PFL featherweight champion Brendan Loughnane progresses in the PFL playoffs after beating Kai Kamaka by split decision. The fight was a back and forth affair and proved entertaining as are most of Loughnane’s fights. The Mancunian extends his record to 30-5 and is now riding an impressive 3 fight winning streak. Kai Kamuka’s 5 fight winning streak was halted as he suffered his first loss in the PFL.
Brendan Loughnane vs Kai Kamaka
The First round was very nearly the final round with Loughnane nearly getting a finish towards the end of the round. Initially the round started off a little slow as both men tried to feel each other out. However, Brendan landed a nasty spinning back kick causing Kai to stumble. Following this Brendan piled on the pressure barraging Kamaka with shots and putting him down with a huge knee dropping him. Brendan then pounced on his grounded opponent with ground and pound as the round came to an end.
Round two is where the fight became more of a back and forth. Kamaka managed to have success with the 1-2 and Brendan with the kicks. Brendan was able to eat Kai’s shots and fire back with his own. This round was a very close affair Brendan being able to answer Kai’s shots with his own.
Round three saw a good start for Kai coming out with heat with Brendan seemingly tiring. However, later in the round Brendan was able to find some energy to apply some pressure of his own to the homestretch. After all was said and done Brendan Loughnane was awarded a spit decision win(29-28, 30-27, 28-29). He will now progress to the final against Timur Khizriev for the PFL featherweight crown.
Beating Khizriev would put Brendan Loughnane in the company of a select few fighters who have managed to become 2-time champions in PFL. So we shall see if Brendan can recapture PFL gold in his next outing.
