Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub recently addressed comments made by Dricus Du Plessis after his impressive title defence.
Dricus “Stillknocks” Du Plessis pulled off a surprising win in his first defence of the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 305. He secured a fourth-round submission against the highly favoured Israel Adesanya, a two-time former champion. This outcome caught many off guard, as most experts and fans alike were expecting Adesanya to reclaim the middleweight title and begin what could have been a historic third reign as champion.
Among those predicting an Adesanya victory was Brendan Schaub, who didn’t mince words about his expectations. Schaub, now more known for his comedy and podcasting, confidently stated before the fight that Adesanya would “beat the sh*t” out of Du Plessis.
However, Du Plessis proved Schaub and many others wrong. After his victory, he wasted no time in addressing Schaub’s prediction, taking to social media to poke fun at the former UFC fighter’s lack of success in the sport.
Brendan Schaub Claps Back at After Being Called Out by Dricus Du Plessis
“@BrendanSchaub great prediction.. You has been JK haha you’ve never been,” Du Plessis wrote.
Schaub, known for his often candid and sometimes controversial takes, responded in a much more measured tone than some might have expected. Rather than firing back with insults, Schaub took the high road.
“Fair play,” Schaub responded. “I’d be mad too. DDP is a monster.”
What’s Next for Dricus du Plessis?
Du Plessis’s victory over Adesanya solidified his status as one of the top fighters in the UFC middleweight division. With this win, he remains undefeated in the UFC, boasting an impressive 8-0 record with a 75% finish rate. As Du Plessis continues to make his mark in the sport, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next for the South African fighter.
Looking ahead, it seems that Du Plessis won’t be resting on his laurels for long. A rematch with Sean Strickland, the man from whom he originally took the title, is expected to be on the horizon in January. Strickland earned his spot as the next contender after a convincing victory over Paulo Costa in June. This upcoming bout promises to be another exciting chapter in the middleweight division, as both fighters look to solidify their positions at the top.
But Strickland isn’t the only threat looming in the 185-pound division. UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi will feature a pivotal matchup between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev. The winner of this fight could very well be next in line for a shot at Du Plessis, keeping the middleweight division as competitive as ever.
Du Plessis’s recent victory and the subsequent exchange with Schaub have only added to the intrigue surrounding his career. With his undefeated streak still intact, the middleweight division is buzzing with potential matchups and rivalries that could shape the future of the sport. As for Schaub, his response to Du Plessis shows that while he may be out of the Octagon, he’s still very much in the conversation when it comes to UFC commentary.
