World-renowned boxing trainer Brian McIntyre has reportedly been arrested and charged with two firearm offences by security officials at Manchester Airport.
This comes just two days after ‘Bomac‘ oversaw Chris Eubank Jr.’s comeback victory over domestic rival Liam Smith. The 53-year-old had began coaching the son of boxing icon Chris Eubank Sr. around four weeks ago.
McIntyre checked in to the aiport ahead of his flight to Atalanta on Sunday morning. The departure lounge then proceeded to flood with armed police, after UK Border Force officials allegedly found a weapon, along with a magazine and ammunition in the American’s luggage.
Recent Developments
Boxing fans have been kept up-to-date throughout the day following the story’s initial release this morning.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told Mail Sport: “At around 10:45am on Sunday, Sept 3rd 2023, officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport.
“After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized. Subsequently, a man has been arrested for possession of a firearm and remains in custody for further questioning.”
Updates now confirm that Brian McIntyre has been charged with ‘possession of a firearm’ and ‘possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificiate’. ‘BoMac‘ will remain in jail until a hearing on October 9, 2023.
Eubank Jr.s’ team have reportedly refused to comment at this stage.
The Coaching of Brian McIntyre
McIntyre is known globally throughout the boxing community as a world-class trainer. The 53-year-old coaches undisputed Welterweight World Champion Terence Crawford, who many see as the sport’s pound-for-pound #1.
‘BoMac‘ has experienced a tremendous year as a coach. Crawford recently beat long-rumoured opponent Errol Spence in dominating fashion to become the first ever undisputed Welterweight champion.
‘Bud‘ is reportedly set to face boxing great Canelo Alvarez in the near future. The 35-year-old would certainly be expecting to have his regular coach behind him for such a crucial matchup.
Similarly, new student Eubank Jr. put on a performance of the year contender on Saturday night. The 33-year-old left previous coach Roy Jones Jr. to work with McIntyre, and finished Smith in the tenth round after an incredibly one-sided bout.
