The brother of current featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is allegedly set to make his UFC debut on July 20th. Aleksandre Topuria hopes to emulate his younger brother’s success when he makes his UFC debut later this year.
Brother of Ilia Topuria, Aleksandre Allegedly Set for UFC Debut Soon
According to EuroSports Spanish MMA and UFC broadcaster, Álvaro Colmenero. Aleksandre Topuria is to make his UFC debut in July. Fans will recognise his older brother Ilia, who currently holds the UFC featherweight championship.
Ilia has taken the UFC by storm since his debut in 2020 where he entered the promotion 8-0. Since his maiden UFC fight, he has only improved fight on fight, amassing a seven-fight winning streak.
The most impressive moment came for Ilia when he dethroned the then featherweight king, Alexander Volkanovski via second-round knockout at UFC 298.
Following in His Brother’sia’s Footsteps
A tall order to follow. Aleksandre Topuria will look to follow the path his brother set before him. Currently 5-1, winning his last three. All five of his wins have come via finish, all five in the first round.
Showing he shares his brother’s finishing capabilities. Aleksandre Topuria will have more eyes on him than most UFC rookies come his supposed July debut.
Without a wealth of experience behind him and only six professional fights deep into his MMA career. It helps that he has the backing of such a big name in the UFC like his brother, who has previously called Aleksandre to be signed by the UFC in press conferences.
It is currently unclear who Aleksander will face in his debut. However, using his younger brother as a yardstick, he won’t be phased regardless. Fighting at bantamweight there is a plethora of talent in the richly stacked 135 lbs division that would gladly welcome him to the promotion.
